Community Moderation
I’ve learned that good communities are built on trust, not rules alone.
1. Be kind
Be clear, but stay respectful.
When someone is angry, don't take it personally. Listen first, explain the situation, and don't hide behind corporate language.
People want to feel heard.
2. Build long-term relationships
Trust takes time.
Give more than you ask for. Help people, answer questions, share useful things, and recognize good contributions.
Don't treat the community like a marketing channel.
3. Don't stop conversations too early
Not every disagreement needs moderation.
Different opinions and a little tension are normal. Step in when a conversation becomes harmful, abusive, or stops being productive.
4. Mute before you block
Blocking should be the last option.
If someone is simply being difficult, give them space first. But when there is harassment or a clear violation of the rules, act quickly.
5. Keep private things private
Not every conversation belongs in public.
If someone shares personal information or needs help with a private issue, move the conversation to DM or email.
Respect people's privacy.
What I believe
Moderation isn't about controlling a community.
It's about keeping the space useful, respectful, and open for everyone.
